The 2023 March Madness tournament has been absolutely insane, and after a brief break, the action will return to our TV screens on Saturday night. There have been surprises all around, but not many folks were expecting UConn and Miami basketball to be meeting up at this stage of the tournament. But now that they are here, it's game on, and fans everywhere are paying attention to the status of Jordan Hawkins.
Hawkins has been one of UConn's best players throughout their dominant run to the Final Four (17.3 PPG, 3 RPG, 1.3 APG, 42.2 FG%) but he has been dealing with an illness throughout the week that has put his status for this game in jeopardy. Luckily for UConn, though, Hawkins was able to participate in their shootaround early on Saturday morning.
Hawkins “participated somewhat” and is expected to “give it a go” barring any setbacks, a school spokesperson told Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.
This appears to be a bit of a mixed bag update on Hawkins, but the fact that's actually participating in the shootaround is a great sign.
Hawkins likely won't be at 100 percent for this game, but it feels like it would take quite a bit to keep him off the court considering the stakes.
Nothing is set in stone yet, but Hawkins' injury status appears to be trending ever so slightly in the right direction, though it will be worth keeping an eye on him until the final injury report comes out.
