Michael Chandler does not believe lightweight opponent Charles Oliveira is game to go all five rounds in their upcoming title bout at UFC 262 on Saturday in Houston.

Chandler told Bleacher Report's Scott Harris he does not feel the fight will go the distance, suggesting his power will wear on Oliveira:

“I think they're very slim,” Chandler told Harris when asked whether the fight would last all five rounds. “Truthfully, I don't think Charles Oliveira has 25 hard minutes in him like I do. I've had that experience, I have that confidence. A lot of the time as fights go on you'll see my opponents get a little tired as the damage takes its toll. The damage will take its toll in his mind as well as his body. And eventually I'll look for the finish or find the finish and get that belt wrapped around my waist.”

Although Chandler is still a UFC newcomer, he has extensive experience in the Bellator promotion and is coming off a spectacular knockout of Dan Hooker at UFC 257 in January.

That said, Chandler probably shouldn't question Oliveira's gas tank and determination. The Brazilian was at a low point in his career after a loss to Paul Felder in 2017. But he has won eight straight en route to this title shot, including a dominant decision win over former UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson in December.

It will be interesting to see how the fight plays out. Oliveira could look to grapple and take it to the ground so as to utilize his submission skills. Alternatively, Chandler might look to strike after the dazzling display he put on while standing against Hooker.

Perhaps the above statement hints at Chandler's desire to stand and bang. He might be after a spectacular finish as he pursues the UFC strap.
