Colby Covington didn't think he put on his best performance against old friend Jorge Masvidal in the main event of UFC 272 on Saturday night, but he still picked up a dominant victory via unanimous decision.

After beating down Masvidal, Covington had some words for Dustin Poirier, via ESPN's Marc Raimondi:

Afterward, Covington called out another one of his former training partners, Dustin Poirier, whom he referred to as “Louisiana swamp trash.” Covington said he wants to be “very active” this year and would like to compete again in July.

“I'll see you soon,” Covington said, referring to Poirier. “You're next!”

Perhaps we'll see a Covington-Poirier matchup soon, but for now, Covington will bask in the glory of his UFC 272 win. There were a lot of emotions in this fight given the history between Covington and Masvidal. They used to be best friends, roommates and teammates, but they had a falling out and are now bitter rivals:

“It wasn't my best performance,” Covington said in the postfight news conference. “Just a lot of emotions going into it. That was a real friend of mine at one point in my career. … I let my emotions get the best of me. But it was still dominant. I showed the world how good I was.”

Covington also has a beef with Poirier, which he made sure to note after this win over Masvidal. Given all the trash talk and hype, this fight should really be next on the UFC docket. Buckle up!
