Kevin Holland and Alex Oliveira will be a fantastic welterweight bout for UFC 272. It’s time to continue our UFC Odds series with a Holland-Oliveira prediction and pick for UFC 272.

FanDuel Evergreen Promo

Kevin “The TrailBlazer” Holland was one of the top fighters during his run in 2020. He fought many times during the course of that year and won all of those fights. He has a pro record of (21-7) but is coming off two straight losses to Derek Brunson and Marvin Vettori. Those losses were in the Middleweight division, where Holland is the No. 14 ranked fighter. This fight against Oliviera will be a welterweight bout which is the same division as the main event between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal.

Alex “Cowboy” Oliviera has a pro record of (22-11-1) and is also coming off three-straight losses. The 34-year-old last fought in October of 2021, where he lost by a unanimous decision to Niko Price. This has the makings of being a very intense fight as both fighters are looking to get back in the win column.

Why Holland Wins The Fight

Holland’s last fight turned into a no-contest after a clash of heads occurred. Holland was knocked unconscious, which resulted in the fight ending early in the first round. After it had happened, Holland continued to fight but Kyle Daukaus submitted him with a rear-naked choke just moments later. Referee Dan Miragliotta went to reply and determined the fight was ruled a no-contest after the collision. There was supposed to be a rematch scheduled for Nov 13 of 2021 but he withdrew with an injury. So, Holland hasn’t really fought since his loss to Vettori on April 10 of last year.

Holland is known as a Jiu-Jitsu fighter where he is a black belt and is also a second-degree black belt in Kung Fu. The Riverside, California native can win this fight in the clinch, where he has five wins via submission. Holland has four career wins via decision but is known for his 12 wins by knockout. The TrailBlazer is always going to try and KO his opponent because he’s a very intense fighter. Oliveira on the other hand doesn’t go down easy, and so Holland’s best chance of winning this fight is to get into the trenches with Cowboy and try and submit him with his variety of options.

Why Oliveira Wins The Fight

The Brazilian native needs to get back on track. This is a tough matchup for the veteran as Holland poses a threat to most fighters in this division. Holland is new to the welterweight club, so Oliveira will have the advantage in terms of cardio. Cowboy is a Muay Thai as well as a Jiu-Jitsu fighter. He and Holland match up pretty well as they are kinda similar in style. Of his 22 wins, he also has 12 wins via KO and one extra win via submission. His five wins via decision are even with Holland so that makes it really tough to tell how this fight will end. Cowboy will win this fight if he sticks to his usual pace of trying to win in the clinch.

Final Holland-Oliveira Prediction & Pick

I think Holland is going to win this fight via decision. Both of these fighters have the KO ability but are also aware enough to avoid it.

Final Holland-Oliveira Pick: Holland (-390) via decision.
