Ciryl Gane returns to the octagon at UFC Paris on Saturday against Serghei Spivac. Gane discussed his loss to MMA legend Jon Jones at UFC 285 in March and said he has learned from it.

“I’m a competitor. Of course, I was really disappointed,” Gane said. “A lot of people were behind me for this fight against Jones, and everybody knows it’s not exactly the result we expected. Everyone knows I could [have] put some more difficulty against Jon Jones.”

“We changed a lot of things around. I think I have to be more focused on me, just me, and not around me, and this is exactly what we did. Preparing for this fight added a lot of experience for me even if I lost my fight.”

Ciryl Gane became the interim UFC Heavyweight champion two years ago, but lost a unification bout to Francis Ngannou shortly after. His next shot at UFC was against Jones. That was Jones' first ever fight in the heavyweight division. It was also his first fight back from a three-year hiatus from the sport.

Jones demonstrated why he's one of the best to ever do it. He made quick work of Gane, getting a submission via guillotine choke in just two minutes.

Gane returns to his homeland at UFC Paris on Saturday. It's only the second time UFC has hosted an event in the city. His opponent, Serghei Spivac has a 16-3 professional fighting record and is the No. 7 ranked heavyweight contender. Gane is still the No. 2 contender, now behind Sergei Pavlovich. However, he starts his climb back to the championship stage Saturday.
