Conor McGregor has fought many scary grapplers throughout his UFC career including Khabib Nurmagomedov and Chad Mendes. The Irishman went through a pretty serious tweet and delete storm recently.

The answer was a bit surprising as most people would expect him to go with Khabib Nurmagomedov considering his reputation in the UFC. Conor McGregor went with someone he fought in 2015 back at featherweight.

“Them elbows are no joke. Nor the upkicks. Everyone’s ground and pound is piss,” Conor McGregor wrote on Twitter about his title fight with Chad Mendes back at UFC 189. “Not a scratch has there ever been on me. Mendes only one. Fair play all the same; bare-knuckle Chad.”

Chad Mendes posted about the fight a few years ago on Instagram and noted how big the moment was at UFC 189. The event was very memorable for quite a few reasons and Mendes even later admitted the moment was huge.

“What a crazy experience. Conor and Aldo were scheduled to fight, but due to a rib injury, Aldo was forced out of the fight,” the now-retired former UFC fighter wrote in an Instagram post about the fight from seven years ago. “I got the call from Dana on 10 days’ notice and went straight from fishing mode into training mode. It was the first time the UFC had live performers for our walk-out songs. Sinead O’Connor sent Mcgregor out and my boy @aaronlewismusic sent me out with ‘country boy.’ Not sure where the last 4 years went but that’s definitely a fight I’ll never forget!”
