Casey O'Neill is about as focused as anyone can be heading into her fight at UFC 271 against Roxanne Modafferi. The Scottish-Australian fighter has always been clear on her goals in the sport.
Roxanne Modafferi is about to enter her last MMA fight as she announced last year that she would retire after UFC 271. Casey O'Neill was asked about it and she did not hold back.
“I don’t care (about her retirement),” O’Neill told MMA Junkie and other reporters at UFC 271 media day. “It doesn’t change anything for me. My career goes on the same. This is just another step in my journey and what she does is on her. So I’m taking it nothing different than the rest of my fights.”
Casey O'Neill was asked about the extra attention between Roxanne Modafferi's retirement and fighting on a very big UFC pay-per-view. She stayed focused on the task at hand. She wants the biggest opportunities possible.
“Every fight feels like the biggest fight of my career,” O’Neill said. “This is what I dreamed of when I signed in the UFC was to be in front of that big crowd.”
The fight is expected to be very interesting as Roxanne Modafferi has surprised many young fighters who thought they would run over her. Casey O'Neill is someone many fans are excited about and is expected to have a very bright future in the UFC.
UFC 271 takes place on Saturday with the two set to meet on the prelim portion of the card. Both women will be hoping for a big win but for very different reasons.
