Nate Diaz has a very complicated future in the UFC and there is currently no update on his future. His training partner, Jake Shields, recently spoke out on Diaz's future in the promotion.

Currently, Nate Diaz has one fight left on his deal with the UFC, and once he fights he'll be a free agent. Jake Shields recently spoke to Helen Yee Sports and gave his take on the situation with the promotion.

“The whole situation is just getting weird and frustrating,” Shields said of Diaz’s status. “I don’t think anything’s really changed. It just seems to be the same pattern of Nate wanting to fight. [But the UFC] They’re not offering anything.”

There is a lot of frustration for Nate Diaz and his team as they're looking to figure out their future in the sport. They can either re-sign with the UFC or explore other options with boxing currently an interesting option.

“[Nate] He always said he wants to fight top 10 because they offered him Khamzat,” he explained. “He wasn’t sure but then he said he’d fight him after the Burns fight, once, you know, he finally beat a ranked opponent and then they went off from the fight after he asked for it. So, seems like it’s been kind of weird, I think. It’s the last fight of his contract, the UFC just don’t want to let him out of his contract.”

It will have to be seen what happens with Nate Diaz and if he's able to make a return to the UFC in 2022. There are plenty of options for him if he's actually able to fight.
