Jorge Masvidal had a rough night in the office at UFC 272 against Colby Covington. He was overwhelmed by Covington's volume and wrestling as he found himself stuck in bad positions multiple times during the fight.

There was a moment in the fight at UFC 272 where Jorge Masvidal was seen getting poked in the eye by Colby Covington. The Miami-based fighter spoke to the referee Herb Dean but the fight was not stopped.

“The eye poke was pretty bad,” Masvidal told reporters at the UFC 272 post-fight press conference via MMAFighting. “The only thing that’s hurting right now is the fucking eye. My eye is still throbbing right now.

“I’ve had a couple of mishaps [with] Herb Dean, I just don’t get why he didn’t fix the action. [He] threw a punch, missed, and immediately jabbed me in the fucking eyeball.

“I’m not going to take anything from [Covington] winning the fight because that was just one sequence, but it would’ve been cool if he could’ve stopped it there and I could’ve gotten my breathing to restart since Colby poked the s*** out of my eye. Me and Herb Dean don’t have a clean record as it is — we’ve had a couple of mishaps in the past. He’s not my cup of tea when it comes to refereeing.”

Jorge Masvidal continued to point out the issues with Herb Dean. The UFC welterweight pointed to his issues in the past.

“That position wouldn’t have happened if he hadn’t poked me in the eye,” UFC welterweight Masvidal said. “It’s whatever, it’s Herb Dean stuff. Everybody here, if you’ve seen fighting, you’ve seen Herb Dean have numerous hiccups.
