The situation lately has been a bit complicated for the hyped welterweight prospect, Khamzat Chimaev. The Russian-Swede has been trying to fight as often as he can against the best the UFC has to offer.

It was rumored for a long time that Khamzat Chimaev would be taking on Gilbert Burns. The potential UFC bout has been talked about since November 2021.

There were reports last year that the bout was verbally agreed but nothing came from it. Now it looks like the two UFC welterweights have spoken to each other on Instagram and both have verbally agreed to fight.

From the conversation between the two, it appears Khamzat Chimaev was looking to fight in May. The UFC welterweights look like they have agreed on April 9 for the date of their potential fight.

So far the only update on the fight is the two parties have verbally agreed to fight and have agreed on a date for the potential bout. The UFC will have to issue contracts before anything can be considered official.

The fight would be a big step up for Khamzat Chimaev as Gilbert Burns is currently ranked #2 in the UFC's welterweight rankings and is a former title challenger. It would be a big test but one that could pay off in a big way should he beat the former title challenger.

The UFC will need to decide if this is a fight that they are interested in for both parties. They could create a new contender or lose a hyped prospect should Gilbert Burns beat Khamzat Chimaev. Only time will tell.
