Rose Namajunas has successfully defended her UFC strawweight title at UFC 268 against Weili Zhang. Now the champion has her eyes set on the next title defense.
Rose Namajunas spoke on The MMA Hour after UFC 268 and gave her opinion on who should be next. She believes her former foe Carla Esparza should get the nod.
“I don’t see anything else [that] makes sense,” Namajunas said Monday on The MMA Hour.
Rose Namajunas is all about challenges. The UFC champion has taken on the biggest challenges and passed every time. Now she wants the next challenge after Weili Zhang.
“I think she’s going to give it all she’s got,” Namajunas said. “Before I said Weili is for sure the most dangerous threat right now, just because of the tools that she possessed. Now, after that, Carla’s for sure going to be the most dangerous opponent right this second because of where she’s at, her last performance and all this stuff, and she’s going to be very motivated to try – she’s fought for a long time.
“I would imagine that she’s going to be pretty motivated for this huge opportunity. So that is something that really excites me and interests me more now than it was before.”
Carla Esparza and Rose Namajunas initially fought for the inaugural UFC strawweight title back in 2014. Esparza would get the best of the current champion by submission.
The two have an interesting storyline heading into a potential rematch. Only time will tell if the UFC chooses to go with it.
