There were plenty of eyes tuned into the epic conclusion of the 2024 U.S. Open on Sunday as Bryson DeChambeau edged out Rory McIlroy and the rest of the field to capture his second major championship. Several celebrities and athletes reacted to the final round fireworks, including Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes and former president Donald Trump.

Trump was as excited as anyone to see DeChambeau pull out the victory, becoming the second consecutive American to win the U.S. Open. The former president had some celebratory words for DeChambeau which he posted on social media.

“Congratulations to Bryson DeChambeau on his incredible WIN of the United States Open! He showed a toughness and inner strength, matched perfectly with his GREAT Golfing Talent, that can never be denied! Under massive pressure, he pulled off some of the greatest shots ever made, especially his spectacular sand save on the 18th Hole that gave him the Victory,” Trump said.

A longtime fan of both playing and watching golf, Trump understands what this win means for DeChambeau and his employer LIV Golf. The tour was without one of its stars Jon Rahm this weekend and did not put together a strong collective performance behind DeChambeau.

Only two other LIV golfers, Sergio Garcia and Brooks Koepka, finished in the top 26. In fact, only eight golfers finished the tournament on par or better. Still, Trump liked to see all of the world's best competing.

“The U.S.A. could not be better represented. Congratulations also to LIV Golf for their genius in signing Bryson and other of the best Golfers in the World,” Trump said. “Hopefully Golf will soon come together as one, fully united, which is the way it should be!”

He came close at the Masters and the PGA Championship, finishing tied for sixth and runner-up, respectively. Bryson DeChambeau finally got over the hump at the U.S. Open, earning his second title and igniting the rest of his 2024.

DeChambeau unfortunately will not be able to play in the Olympics due to his spot in the world rankings. There's long been a feud as to which LIV events work as ranking events. Despite his major win and top-six finishes in the other two, DeChambeau missed out on a spot in Paris.

Fans of the PGA Tour will only get to see him once more at The Open in July. While his team sits atop the LIV Golf team standings, DeChambeau has yet to win an event. Earning a U.S. Open victory will ease that burden though and perhaps set off a reaction for DeChambeau to win a few more events this summer.

The 30-year-old has increased his popularity to incredible heights. Once one of the more disowned LIV golfers, DeChambeau is now a fan favorite is plays to the crowd with ease. Maybe some people don’t know why they’re drawn to him, but they are.

Bryson DeChambeau is a major champion again and there are so many people that are happy for him. The U.S. Open is not easy to win and he took it down to the last hole to claim the title. What a way to return to the top of the golf world.
