The USC football team had a very promising start to the Lincoln Riley era as they were just one win away from winning the Pac-12 and going to the College Football Playoff in 2022. However, things took a turn for the worst last year as the Trojans went 7-5 despite having Caleb Williams, the best player in the country. Now, USC is seeing an unfortunate trend in their 2025 recruiting class as they have lost commitments from five-star recruits in back-to-back days.

First, five-star Edge Isaiah Gibson announced that he was decommitting from the USC football team on Tuesday. He committed in March, but he decided that he won't be playing for the Trojans after all.

“BREAKING: Five-Star EDGE Isaiah Gibson has Decommitted from USC, he tells me for @on3recruits,” Hayes Fawcett said in a tweet. “The 6’5 260 EDGE from Warner Robins, GA had been Committed to the Trojans since March Ranked as the No. 1 EDGE in ‘25 (per On3 Industry).”

More bad news came on Wednesday for USC football recruiting as five-star defensive lineman Justus Terry decided that he wanted to open back up his recruitment as well. Losing one five-star commit is bad enough, but two in two days is absolutely brutal.

“BREAKING: Five-Star Plus+ DL Justus Terry has Decommitted from USC,” Hayes Fawcett said in a tweet. “The No. 2 DL in the ‘25 class had been committed to the Trojans since March USC loses 5-Stars on the DL in back to back days.”

These are both difficult blows for USC. Isaiah Gibson is the #17 player in the class of 2025 according to 247 Sports, the #1 EDGE in the class and the #6 player in the state of Georgia.

Justus Terry is the #12 player in the 2025 class, the #2 DL and the #2 player in the state of Georgia. Both of these five-stars are from the state of Georgia, so the Bulldogs are certainly a team to watch.

Isaiah Gibson is interested in Georgia

Georgia football is a team to watch for both of these guys, but more so for Isaiah Gibson. He has some crystal ball predictions in favor of the Bulldogs, and he has said a lot of good things about his relationship with Georgia OLBs coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe.

“I mostly got to talk to coach Uzo-Diribe,” Gibson said, according to an article from Sports Illustrated. “So we always have good conversations. I mean, like we are like brothers. We talk about llke every other day. We have a good relationship. So yeah, I've talked to him mostly outside of Coach Schumann.”

For USC football, this is a major blow to their 2025 recruiting class. These two guys were at the top of their class, and just like that, they're gone. The Trojans are in a tough spot right now.

This 2024 season is going to be huge for Lincoln Riley and USC. If they have another disappointing year like they did last season, Riley is really going to start to get some doubters from the USC fan base. Things aren't going to be any easier this year either as the Trojans are making the move to the Big Ten. It's going to be difficult, but this team needs to have a big year.
