Vanessa Bryant is still in the throes of a bitter legal battle with her mother, Sofia Laine, which took another turn Monday.

Laine had previously sued on the grounds of financial support, claiming she had not received certain promised benefits. Bryant denied those claims, and issued new evidence to show the allegations are unfounded.

The evidence apparently stems from a settlement dispute Laine had with her ex-husband, per Hollywood Life:

At the time, Sofia’s ex-husband, who was not identified by the outlet, claimed he should not have to pay Laine because she was being supported by Kobe and Vanessa. Sofia allegedly responded that her daughter and son-in-law had no obligation to support her financially, and that anything she received was simply out of kindness.

According to the new court documents, Vanessa Bryant claims Sofia’s ex-husband cited tabloid stories which, at one time, claimed Vanessa bought a $1 million home for Sofia, and therefore wasn’t in need of support. Bryant's lawyers are also arguing Laine would have had to file a creditor's claim within a year of Kobe's death to receive benefits from his estate, which she purportedly did not do.

Laine had maintained she served as a nanny and caretaker of sorts, entering into a contract with Kobe and Vanessa whereby she would receive financial support.

Vanessa, meanwhile, has continuously denied her mother was ever promised anything via a financial arrangement. It is unfortunate Vanessa Bryant has to deal with legal proceedings–from her own mother no less–pertaining to the loss of her husband, especially when Laine's claims appear incredibly shaky, at best.
