While the legacy of Kobe Bryant and his untimely passing will always live on in the hearts of fans across the NBA, some drama has emerged in the Bryant family following his death. Vanessa Bryant, widow of Kobe Bryant, is currently in a legal battle with her mother, with Vanessa claiming that her mother is trying to extort her.

Vanessa's mother, Sofia Laine, has launched her latest legal attack in a statement saying that Vanessa didn't waste any time getting back to her social life in the outside world shortly after Bryant's passing. This all comes after Vanessa allegedly “cut off” her mother financially after some time had went by following the death of Kobe Bryant.

The statement by Laine was made available via USA Today's Analis Bailey and Josh Peter:

“Laine suggested Vanessa Bryant's actions occurred because Laine “did not condone” Vanessa Bryant attending social events in the evening and leaving her three children with Laine, according to the lawsuit.”

Laine's statement comes after Vanessa denied the accusations by her mother that she worked as a nanny for Vanessa and tended to her children. However, Vanessa recently took to her Instagram and declared those claims by her mother false, claiming that she'd always been a full-time stay-at-home mom.

Vanessa also claims that she and Kobe Bryant in fact took care of her mother for over 20 years and has since tried to work things out with her Laine despite her many degrading attacks on the Bryants.

Hopefully, the two sides are able to move past their issues for the overall betterment of the family as they continue to mourn the passing of a great in Bryant.

It is sometimes hard to believe that Kobe Bryant died this year, given how long and traumatic 2020 has been. What has happened in the 11 months since Kobe's death has been impossible to easily summarize or cope with. The Bryant family is trying to cope along with everyone else, only with the kind of pain which doesn't easily or quickly fade.
