The Boston Celtics snatched a win from the jaws of defeat Monday night, escaping with a razor-thin close 112-111 road victory over the Indiana Pacers. The game looked like it was headed the other way, as the Pacers had a four-point lead after Lance Stephenson sank both of his free throws with 27 seconds remaining on the game clock.

Marcus Smart cut the lead down to two with a layup before it went back to four thanks to a pair of Victor Oladipo’s charity stripe makes. Showing why he’s one of the best clutch playmakers in the game today, Kyrie Irving returned fire on the other end of the floor by burying a 3-pointer to shave Indiana’s lead down to one, 111-110. Indiana then burned its last timeout of the game with nine seconds remaining.

All the Pacers had to do was inbound the ball and waste the time away or wait for the Celtics to foul them.

Here’s how the rest of the rest of the game unfolded.

Bojan Bogdanovic experienced a mental lapse at the worst time possible. Hoisting a high-arcing lob pass to Oladipo was probably the last thing the Pacers would like to do, but he did, paving the way for Terry Rozier’s heroics. Rozier perfectly read the play and even more impressive, he was able to time the pass well.

It was a bitter loss for the Pacers, who drop to 17-14. They could redeem themselves in Atlanta on Wednesday.
