LeBron James has already come out in support of Colin Kaepernick's Nike advertisement. Now, he's appearing in a Nike ad with a voiceover from Kaepernick. James and Kaepernick are two of the most prominent voices in all of sports.

During the ad, Kaepernick says:

“Don't become the best basketball player on the planet. Be bigger than basketball.”

The voiceover is complete with a shot of a young LeBron James completing a mind-blowing between-the-legs dunk. Following this shot, an image of James at the opening of his I Promise School is shown. This is obviously pushing the idea that LeBron's work off the court is more important than what he has done on the court.

Kaepernick has become the face of activist athletes, so naturally his partnership with Nike is centered on the idea of activism. LeBron is another prominent athlete who takes activism and giving back to his community seriously.

James' off-the-court activism aside, he's entering one of the most important years of his basketball career. He's looking to build upon his legacy and help bring the Los Angeles Lakers back to prominence. James will lead a team laden with young talent and a slew of veterans to come off the bench.

It will be difficult for LeBron to continue his streak of making eight consecutive NBA Finals appearances, but he'll certainly give the Lakers a puncher's chance. Perhaps the Lakers will attempt to find a running mate for James at the trading deadline or during the summer of 2019.
