Magic Johnson recently recalled the one time that he talked trash to Michael Jordan, and afterwards he never did it again.

During an unrecorded and un-televised USA Dream Team practice, he recalls being split into East and West squads, and going back and forth winning between games. In one of the games, Magic says his team was in the lead, and that gave him the courage to rib Jordan about the score.

“So this is the fourth day and we got out on them about 12-2. I said, ‘I’m going to really rattle his chain.’ So I went over there and tapped him on the shoulder and said, ‘Hey, man. If you don’t turn into Air Jordan, we’re going to blow you out today.'”

According to Magic, Jordan came right out of the huddle, started draining 3-pointers, wagging his tongue and pointing at him. At this point, Magic probably realized he made a huge mistake trash talking with the wrong guy. What happens next is what Magic says he considers the greatest shot he's ever seen.

He first highlights the famous Julius Erving reverse layup seen in NBA highlights, and Jordan's own layup against the Lakers in the 1991 Finals. He continues that Jordan stuns everyone with a hanging 360 dunk over an in-his-prime David Robinson. This shot, he recalls, ended the game – and his trash talking – as he stands up to demonstrates what he remembers seeing to cap off his story.

The trash talk didn't work on Jordan, and it caused Magic to do it again.

Magic has an incredible knack for explaining basketball stories in an almost art-form like way, and no one could describe a trash talking story as well as he just did.
