Recent articles have suggested a disconnect between former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer and quarterback Kirk Cousins. While Zimmer is gone now, questions still remain as to what the Vikings' plan is regarding Cousins' future. New GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah spoke about Cousins on Tuesday, gushing over the veteran quarterback, via NBC Sports. However, his praise came with a catch.
“He’s an incredibly consistent passer,” Adofo-Mensah said. “I don’t think people realize that essentially every play has kind of a result baked into it, based on factors he can’t control. And I think what you know about Kirk is when the odds are shifted in his favor, he gets the most out of it. And I think people don’t appreciate that skill enough. But he’s incredibly consistent, incredibly accurate thrower. He’s tough, he’s durable. He plays every game. He stands in there and takes those hits, when those throws are a little bit harder to come by. He’s an incredible player.
New Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah didn't hold back with his praise of Kirk Cousins. Adofo-Mensah described Cousins as an “incredibly consistent passer.”
The new GM went on to interestingly say that sometimes, there are preconceived notions about players that get proven wrong once people go on to work with said player. Adofo-Mensah did add a catch to his Cousins comments.
He said that “everything is in play” regarding their 2022 plans. While Adofo-Mensah's previous comments suggest he's all-in on Cousins, it's curious that he would have added in the last part, which seems to suggest that Minnesota would bite on a trade opportunity if one emerged.
The Vikings clearly still view Cousins as part of their future. It will be interesting to see if anything makes them change their minds.
