The Golden State Warriors found themselves bouncing back from their previous loss to the OKC Thunder, winning 118-91 in Game 2. The team held a commanding lead on the talented Oklahoma team, and this excellence can be found even off of the basketball court.
The Warriors were recently named “Sports Team of the Year” at the Ninth Annual Sports Business Awards in New York City’s Times Square. Warriors CEO Joe Lacob was also rewarded the “Sports Executive of the Year.”
The Sports Business Awards is an event recognizing a plethora of different sports organizations, consisting of 17 categories with 87 nominees. With top teams like the Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Kansas City Royals in the running for the award, the Warriors are very fortunate to accept this accolade.
“Being named Sports Team of the Year and Sports Executive of the Year is a true testament to our Strength in Numbers and the incredible group of people we have in our organization,” commented Lacob.
In addition to their on court success, the Warriors have managed to see plentiful economic success in recent seasons. Their ticket sales, renewal rates, and digital traffic have remained among the top in the NBA, and this is a testament to why they earned this prestigious award.
“We are committed to being one of the top franchises in professional sports and it’s a true honor to be recognized for our efforts by the Sports Business Journal,” said Lacob.
Maybe this backstage triumph will elevate the Warriors to go on and prove to every other team in the playoffs who's going for a repeat championship.
