Andrew Wiggins' love and respect for Kenny Atkinson just grew bigger after the assistant coach decided to stay with the Golden State Warriors and back out of the Charlotte Hornets' head coaching job.

On Saturday, a couple of days after the Warriors won the 2021-22 NBA title, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN shared that Atkinson has decided to return to the team as Steve Kerr's top assistant. Per the report, Atkinson expressed belief that it would be best for him to stay in Golden State.

To recall, during the NBA Finals, the Hornets decided to hire Atkinson as their head coach and offered him a four-year deal. The move was met with a lot of praise and expectations, especially since the veteran tactician is know for his player development and proven ability to transform a team into a playoff contender.

Unfortunately for the Hornets, Atkinson had a change of heart and chose to return to the Warriors. For Wiggins, it's a brave move that shows how the Dubs are really in the same page in their desire to win:

“He gave up a head coaching job to come back and be a part of this thing we got here. It's amazing. It shows that all we got here is a bunch of people that want to win, that are on the same page. And we're looking forward to the future,” Wiggins said of Atkinson, per CJ Holmes of the San Francisco Chronicle.

It is certainly big for the Warriors to have Kenny Atkinson back, especially after Mike Brown has decided to leave after being hired by the Sacramento Kings as their head coach.

Hopefully, Andrew Wiggins will be able to stay in Golden State as well, especially with his contract expiring after 2022-23 and due an extension talk soon.
