The Golden State Warriors were never truly going to let their franchise cornerstones walk away in free agency. After signing Klay Thompson to an extension this summer, the Dubs also got aggressive in locking up Draymond Green who would have been an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Green signed a four-year, $100 million extension to remain in the Bay Area for the foreseeable future, and the man who drafted him could not be any happier.

In their official press release, Bob Myers praised Green for his role as a central figure in Golden State’s dominance this decade.

“We’re thrilled to retain Draymond long-term as we move forward and into Chase Center,” said Warriors President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Bob Myers. “He’s played an enormous part in shaping our organization over the last seven years. His passion and knowledge for the game are indispensable to our team. As a multi-time NBA Champion he’s surpassed everyone’s expectations—except his own.”

Drafted in the second round in 2012, Green has already proven to be one of the greatest steals in the history of the NBA Draft. He has made it to the All-Defensive team in five straight seasons, even winning the Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2017.

Although his regular season numbers were down last year, Green was dominant in the playoffs. He averaged 13.3 points, 10.1 rebounds and 8.5 assists while shooting nearly 50 percent from the field. He was practically unstoppable running the pick-and-roll with Stephen Curry.

Green will have a greater responsibility for this upcoming season, but the brash superstar is surely welcoming the challenge with open arms.
