Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers says at the end of the day, superstar small forward Kevin Durant “just wanted to try something new.”

Durant signed a four-year, $164.26 million contract with the Brooklyn Nets, ending his three-year run with the Warriors which included two championships and two Finals MVPs for KD.

“He just wanted to try something new,” Myers said, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “That’s OK. You all here probably worked for more than one company.”

The Warriors were able to acquire All-Star point guard D'Angelo Russell from the Nets in a sign-and-trade deal involving Kevin Durant, so at least Bob Myers didn't lose KD for nothing. Durant is widely expected to miss the entire 2019-20 season recovering from his Achilles tear.

In 208 regular season games with the Warriors, Durant was a machine. The future Hall of Famer averaged 26.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.9 assists while shooting 52.1 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from beyond the arc and 88.5 percent from the free-throw line. KD played in 48 playoff games with the Dubs and put up 29.6 points per game.

The Warriors went to three straight Finals in the Durant era. Had KD not strained his calf in the second round against the Houston Rockets, Golden State probably wins the Finals versus the Toronto Raptors.
