Golden State Warriors All-Star guard Stephen Curry has become widely-recognized as one of the top players in the league. A crucial part of this is possessing a huge amount of confidence in his ability on the court to perform at an elite level.

In light of that, Curry's eighth-grade basketball coach recently recalled an epic moment during a game where the Warriors star showed some flashes of his potential at a young age.

Per Alex Ballingall in his 2015 article for TheStar.com:

Looking back on that season, the big moment that sticks out for Field and Lackey is the final game of a tournament at Mentor College, a private school in Mississauga. The Saints were down by eight points with about a minute left in the championship game, an undefeated season on the line against Hillcrest Jr. Public School.

“They had multiple guys who were six-foot-plus, which in the eighth grade is pretty tall,” Field recalled. “Coach called a timeout.”

Huddled on the sidelines with his players, Lackey was exasperated. “I tell them: Guys, I think we’re going to lose. I am out of ideas. I have nothing left to give you on how to beat these guys.”

Then Curry piped up. “Give me the ball.”

“Coach goes, ‘All right,’ ” Field recalled, “‘just give him the ball.’ ”

Next thing you know, Curry hits a three, gets a steal, hits another three, Field hits a three, Curry hits another three. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” Lackey said. “We ended up winning the game. It was a 13-point swing-around and it was entirely because of him.”

This story just makes it even more clear that Curry has always possessed the utmost confidence in his ability. It has helped fuel him to reach this point in his basketball career as the major driving force behind a team that has won two out of the last three NBA titles.

Stephen Curry has taken his game to the next level over the last four seasons with four All-Star selections, two NBA MVP awards, two All-NBA First Team nods, and two All-NBA Second Team selections over that span. In the process, he has become arguably one of the greatest shooters that the league has seen.

Ultimately, this anecdote just gives more insight to the special talent and mindset that Curry has possessed for quite some time.
