All-Star point guard D’Angelo Russell is “beyond excited” to join the Golden State Warriors, who have been to five straight NBA Finals and won three out of the last five championships.

Russell says the Warriors “do nothing but win.” The former No. 2 overall pick is looking forward to learning what it takes to compete at the highest level on a nightly basis.

“It was a really exciting offseason for a lot of teams and players,” Russell told Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype. “A lot of pieces moved in certain ways that forced other pieces to move too. I was just one of those pieces that was trying to find a place to call home.

“I’m excited [to join the Warriors]. I’m beyond excited! They’ve been to five straight Finals and they do nothing but win. That’s something that I’m trying to add to my resume in this league; [I want to] become a winner. I think this is the first step, going to a team of that caliber. I think it’ll work out pretty great too. They have some great coaches and great players to kind of make it all work. I’m ready to get the wheels turning.”

The Warriors acquired D’Angelo Russell from the Brooklyn Nets in the Kevin Durant sign-and-trade deal. Russell will start alongside Stephen Curry while Klay Thompson recovers from his ACL tear.

Last season, Russell averaged 21.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.0 assists while shooting 43.4 percent from the field, 36.9 percent from beyond the arc and 78.0 percent from the free-throw line. The lefty has already been working out with Curry and the Warriors can't wait to see D'Lo and Steph wreck havoc together next season.
