The Golden State Warriors will be without D'Angelo Russell on Friday as they take on the Los Angeles Clippers, but Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said that Russell plans to play on Sunday against the Memphis Grizzlies, according to Connor Letourneau of The San Francisco Chronicle.

Russell has missed the last five games with a bruised right shoulder and is bound for his sixth tonight against the Clippers. He's played in only 23 of the team's 39 games this season, needing several absences to care for some minor injuries throughout the course of the season.

The 23-year-old Russell is averaging 23.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game this season, leading the Warriors in scoring in what has been a disappointment of an year. Golden State is currently sitting at 9-30, with the worst record in the Western Conference and close to the all-around cellar of the NBA.

HKerr is hoping to keep his stars, the few that are left standing, healthy enough for the rest of the season, giving veteran Draymond Green some planned rest in certain games. The team is dealing with long-term injuries to Klay Thompson (torn ACL) and Stephen Curry (broken left hand), which has greatly hurt their playoff aspirations for this season after five straight seasons making the NBA Finals and three championships in that span.

The Warriors are expected to wind up with one of the top five picks in the 2020 NBA Draft if they keep losing at this rate, and it's been a few years since the organization has picked that high in the lottery.

Russell's return could give Golden State the chance to sniff out a win against the playoff-hopeful Grizzlies, but the team will need better shooting than what they've mustered in the past few games to do so.
