Despite missing 14 of their last 16 games, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green believes he still has a shot at winning the Defensive Player of the Year award.

Draymond Green has made it clear in November that he is aiming to bag the DPOY trophy which he last won in 2017. However, he has only played in 13 games for the Warriors this season and hasn't featured for the team since Nov. 15 due to a sprained toe.

The 28-year-old forward, nonetheless, doesn't think that his time off will affect his chances of winning the defensive accolade and emphasized he has the skills to make up for his absence.

He even mentioned Kawhi Leonard who won the award in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons despite playing 64 and 72 games, respectively.

“Kawhi beat me one year and I think he played 56 games, something like that. So hell no, it's still on my mind and I'ma get it done,” Green said, per Logan Murdock of The Mercury News.

“I just got to come back and lock the league up, which I'm more than capable of doing.”

Green is set to return on Monday when the Warriors take on the Minnesota Timberwolves at Oracle Arena. The Michigan State product is still the Dubs' best defender, and he will have a chance to show that when he steps on the court again.

The three-time NBA All-Star is averaging 6.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.8 steals per contest.
