San Francisco, CA – The Golden State Warriors have found a gem this season in Gary Payton II. His play coming off of the bench for the Dubs has been extraordinary. Every game, he pulls off a highlight dunk and makes plays all over the court. But his specialty is shutting down opposing players. Exactly how his father, Hall of Famer Gary Payton, did in his playing days.

The Warriors guard had a dad who was a defensive guru, and it earned him one of the best nicknames ever, The Glove. Just how Stephen Curry's dad was a three-point specialist and taught him everything he knew about the art of shooting, you would imagine Payton II's father did the same with him when it came to defense.

“To be honest, we really don't talk about defense…I wasn't offensively gifted like he was, so I had to do it on the defensive end. I made sure I was great at defense, and it's led to steals dunks, and that's how I got my offense going,” Payton II tells ClutchPoints.

You can see Gary Payton is proud of his son and happy he has found a fit in the NBA. The Warriors are a good team that Payton II's skill set fits perfectly. Early in this season, he has been one of the most impactful players on the team.

Every time the Warriors need some energy, he brings it. If you need him to set the tone defensively, he welcomes the challenge. Payton II, who isn't known to be a scorer, has even done that. He's scored in double figures the last three games. So far, he's everything the Warriors need, and the Bay Area is happy to have him.
