An incident involving Kelly Oubre Jr. and Klay Thompson earlier in their careers resurfaced this week after Oubre officially joined the Golden State Warriors.

With Oubre heading to the Bay Area, he apologized for punching Thompson near the beginning of his career, per Wes Goldberg of the Bay Area News Group.

The incident that Oubre was asked about occurred during the 2017 season when he was with the Washington Wizards. The scrum began with Warriors forward Draymond Green and Bradley Beal getting into an altercation, with Oubre getting himself involved.

Within the pile, Kelly Oubre Jr. was seen throwing and slightly landing a punch on Klay Thompson. At the time, Oubre was 22 years old and was in his third season in the NBA after being the No. 15 overall pick out of Kansas in 2015.

Fast forward to now and the new Warriors swingman is a much more mature player on and off of the floor. After spending nearly three and a half seasons with the Wizards, Oubre was traded to the Phoenix Suns during the 2018-19 campaign.

In his two years with the Suns, Oubre has developed into a talented wing player that can produce on both ends of the floor. Just last season, the Kansas product notched career-highs in points (18.7), rebounds (6.4) and 3-point percentage (35.2).

Of course, due to the unfortunate season-ending injury to Thompson, the Warriors completed a trade for Oubre, who was previously moved to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the massive trade that sent Chris Paul to the Suns.

While Oubre looks to help fill the void left behind by Thompson, he hopes there isn't any bad blood between him and his new Warriors teammates.
