Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant was back in Seattle Friday night and the two-time Finals MVP paid homage to one of the best players in SuperSonics history.

When he was introduced in the starting lineup at Seattle’s KeyArena, Durant came out in a Shawn Kemp jersey and the crowd went absolutely berserk. Durant then went to center court and addressed the raucous crowd. The nine-time All-Star gave a shout out to the Seattle Storm, who won the 2018 WNBA championship, and also told the Seattle fans he hopes an NBA team will be back in their city soon.

Kevin Durant played one season in Seattle. That was during his rookie year back in 2007. The Sonics then became the Thunder and the franchise moved to Oklahoma City in 2008. Ever since then, the city of Seattle has been petitioning to get an NBA team back. Durant and Seattle native Jamal Crawford have said multiple times they want a team to be back in the city.

Shawn Kemp played eight seasons with the Sonics and was a legend. He was a powerful dunker and made the All-Star team five times with the franchise. Kemp and Hall of Famer Gary Payton led the Sonics to the 1996 NBA Finals, where they lost to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in six games.

This was a great gesture that Durant did. It's a shame the NBA hasn't brought a team back to Seattle. The fans are obviously very passionate and the city is beautiful. For one night at least, basketball is back in Seattle and, hopefully, this isn't the last time we see a game there.
