The Golden State Warriors are the best team in basketball when they’re fully focused, but that isn’t always the case, like during their Game 5 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. Suddenly forced to play a Game 6 in the first round of the playoffs, both players and coaches for the Warriors are putting the blame on themselves, including Steve Kerr:

According to Kevin Durant, however, he doesn’t believe coaches should be the only ones who motivate players for games like this:

According to Durant, players are just as responsible — if not more so — than the coaches to get ready for games. His argument centers around players knowing their opponents, and it being up to them to mentally prepare for the games. Durant later went on to discuss the changes the Clippers have made, including inserting JaMychal Green into the starting lineup.

Thanks to the Clippers going smaller with Green, it has enabled the Clippers to space things out more. With Green knocking down key 3-point shots during Game 5, the Warriors must now prepare for the Clippers to once again go small against them to start Game 6.

Despite that, the Warriors should still be favored in the series, but their lack of focus throughout the series is certainly cause for concern.
