As the Golden State Warriors prepare to host the New York Knicks at Oracle Arena, the incessant rumors of a potential move to the Big Apple by Kevin Durant have flooded headlines around the league. As usual, Durant has grown tired of the attention this story has gotten over the course of the season, seemingly morphing into a different team with cap space as the schedule takes its course.

“I have no clue where that comes from,” said Durant, according to Logan Murdock of the San Jose Mercury News. “I just focus on playing ball every single day. I can't control what people say about me or what they say about my future or what I should do.”

“I wish it was the other way where its just totally about the game but I get it… There's more and more popularity around the league and the sexy thing is what happens in the summer more so than what happens around the season.”

Durant's link to the Knicks comes by way of his longtime business partner, Rich Kleiman, who previously expressed ambitions of taking over the front office and still has strong links to the city and the franchise as a native New Yorker. The Knicks are hoping to clear enough cap space to sign two max-level free agents this summer, one of which could be Durant if he decides to end his tenure with the Warriors by opting out of his contract.

Durant has been on the record claiming he will look to make as much money as he can during this upcoming offseason, a clear sign that the Warriors will likely be out of the running for his services. They'd need to part ways with one of their high-priced All-Stars before the offseason rolls around to make it work.
