The Golden State Warriors may have lost to the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday night, but they did get a consolation prize when All-Star guard Klay Thompson rejoined them on the bench during the game. Thompson, who suffered a devastating torn Achilles in the offseason, provided head coach Steve Kerr an encouraging update on his injury.

The six-time All-Star relayed to Kerr that “the worst” of his rehab process is now in the rearview mirror. Thompson will now take the next steps on his road to recovery:

The sweet-shooting 2-guard sported a walking boot as he watched his Warriors battle against the Pacers:

Golden State may have lost the final game of a long home stand, but it must have felt great for Dubs fans to see Thompson back on the bench.

This, by any means, does not indicate that Thompson will make a return at any point this season. The three-time NBA champ is still set to miss the entire campaign as Golden State looks forward to bringing him back next season.

It's going to be hard to envision the Warriors making a serious run to a championship this year without their elite two-way shooting guard. Nonetheless, this Dubs team has been fun to watch under the leadership of Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Andrew Wiggins has taken major strides so far this season, especially with his defense, and No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman has shown flashes of brilliance in his young NBA career.

Should everything go right with Thompson's rehab this year, next year's Dubs should become legitimate contenders for the title.
