Lakers head coach Luke Walton has jokes, too.
Before Wednesday's night's 127-123 overtime loss to the Golden State Warriors, Walton spoke to the media about Young, who played for the Lakers for four years before signing with Golden State in the offseason.
True to his sarcastic self, Walton said just what one would think he would say about the divisive Young, per Anthony Slater of the Athletic.
Walton's comment is somewhat of an inside joke. In the days leading into the game against his former team, Young told Mark Medina of the Bay Area News Group, in so many words, that he was looking forward to playing in his old stomping grounds.
“I'm going to go in and try to kill them guys,” Young said. “I'm going to be talking trash and just having fun.”
Things didn't exactly turn out that way during the game. Young played 14 minutes and scored nine points on 3-of-5 shooting.
But the banter between Walton and Young is all in good fun. Young seemed to enjoy much of time in Los Angeles, save for maybe those suspect Byron Scott years.
But Walton coached Young last season, and the two seemed to have a good report. That doesn't seem to have changed much now that Young is with the Warriors.
