There's a brewing controversy surrounding Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors. Of course, it's nothing that should worry Warriors fans. This has to do with Thompson's alma mater, Washington State.

News of Thompson stepping in as the guest picker on ESPN's Saturday morning college football show, “College GameDay” broke as ESPN announcer Dave Pasch mentioned it on air.

Thompson makes sense. He's one of the most recognizable members of the Washington State community — he left school after his junior season so he's technically not an alumnus, but he's basically an alumnus.

But Thompson's appearance on GameDay looks to be an unfounded rumor at this point. The Warriors told Anthony Slater of The Athletic that Thompson would not appear in Pullman, Washington with College GameDay.

It would be surprising to see Klay Thompson in Pullman on Saturday. The Warriors play Friday in Utah, Sunday in Denver, and Monday in Phoenix. Thompson traveling to Washington in the middle of a three-games-in-four-nights stretch would seem unlikely.

Perhaps if the Warriors were playing on Portland on Friday or Saturday, Thompson could have made it work, but it seems unlikely with all the travel the Warriors must do in a short period of time.

The road trip presents an early test for Golden State. The Jazz and Nuggets are playoff hopefuls and the Suns came out firing in an opening night victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

While Washington State fans would love to see Klay Thompson on campus this weekend, it doesn't look like that's going to happen.
