Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is used to setting records on the court. Now one of his rookie cards is setting records of its own after an incredible purchase.

The previous mark for the most expensive sports card was a LeBron James rookie card that went for $5.2 million back in April. That reign atop the sports card world in terms of price paid for one card was short lived for the James rookie card. Now, a Stephen Curry rookie card has gone for an insane price.

This Curry rookie card displaying the Warriors two-time MVP is a 1/1 card that was bought for $5.9 million. The record eclipses the mark set by the James card that was bought back in April and has set a new bar in the sports card industry.

Curry is coming off another sensational season. The Warriors all-pro guard led the league in scoring with 32.0 pointe per game. Curry shot 42% from three-point range while attempting nearly 13 three's a game. Without Klay Thompson, the large brunt of the work for the Warriors was put on the shoulders of Curry as Golden State got all the way to the play-in tournament before being knocked out by the Memphis Grizzlies.

What this means in terms of some sort of domino effect in the card market or the Curry card market specifically is yet to be seen. One thing for sure is that this 1/1 card is a rarity and true one-of-a-kind piece for any collection. With Curry's autograph and a patch apart of the card, it's a sight for sore eyes for any collector.
