Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is a late scratch on Saturday's game against the Charlotte Hornets due to an apparent illness.

The Warriors announced Curry is not feeling well and would have to sit out the game. Mychal Mulder started in Steph's place.

The development is undoubtedly a huge downer for the fans and the people of Charlotte, considering the city holds a special place in Stephen Curry's heart. After all, Steph spent some of his childhood years in Buzz City when his father, Dell, played for the team.

In fact, before tipoff, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke out about the importance of playing in Charlotte for Curry. While it's different without fans in attendance, it doesn't change the fact that visiting the city and the arena is special for the sharpshooter.

“It's definitely a special game for him every year. It's a little different for him without fans in the stand,” Kerr noted, per Connor Letourneau of San Francisco Chronicle.

It's undoubtedly bad timing for Curry and the Warriors, but the team certainly can't take the risk of playing their scoring leader if he's not feeling well. After all, during this time of a pandemic, any ailment and injury should be taken seriously and with utmost care.

Hopefully, Curry's condition is not that serious. In 30 games so far in the season, the 32-year-old NBA vet is averaging 29.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game. He has also been selected as a starter in the upcoming All-Star Game this March.
