Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors is so far ahead of the shooting game that he has to miss over 400 shots consecutively just to go down to the level of another shooting great, Ray Allen.
As observed by Redditor u/Celticsfor18th, Curry is shooting at a 43.9 percent clip from downtown on 7.9 attempts and a total of 5,062 attempts. Allen, who is the all-time leader in 3-point makes, shot 40 percent from distance on 5.7 attempts per game and 7,429 total attempts. This means that Curry needs to miss his next 486 attempts from downtown just to match Allen's percentage.
This is another proof that Curry — who still has a long way to go before he retires — is the greatest shooter of all time. As of this writing, Curry has drained 2,220 3-pointers for fifth all-time. Allen, who holds the record, has 2,973 — which he achieved in 18 years in the NBA. Curry, meanwhile, is just in his 10th year in the league. And if he remains healthy, he might play for a good three to five more years before he fully exits his prime. By then, he would've probably broken the all-time record by a mile.
Much credit should also be given to the Warriors' system. A good reason why Curry knocks down at least five 3-pointers per game is that he is also teammates with Klay Thompson — the only player apart from him which shoots above 40 percent from downtown on at least five attempts. On top of that, they are helmed by Steve Kerr, who has created the perfect system to maximize the shooting abilities of the Splash Brothers.
But this is not to take away Curry's his individual discipline and perseverance. Much has been said about his work ethic. We only see the fruits of his labor but little do we know about the countless hours he has spent inside the gym, shooting.
