Preseason or not, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr is taking the Brooklyn Nets for real.

After watching the Nets' impressive performance in their warm-up contest against the Boston Celtics on Friday, the Warriors tactician expressed his belief that the league better watch out for Brooklyn, especially with his former player Kevin Durant looking healthy.

“Which was kind of scary for the rest of the league Brooklyn really showed the potential that they have,” Steve Kerr said of the Nets' recent performance, via Wes Goldberg of the Bay Area News Group. “And more than anything, I was thrilled to see Kevin look exactly the same.”

The Nets blew out the Celtics, 113-89, at the TD Center in the team's second and final preseason game. Durant dropped 25 points on 9-for-16 shooting (2-for-5 from 3-point range), while Kyrie Irving added 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists in 28 minutes.

Kerr's Warriors will face off against Durant's Nets to begin their respective 2020-21 regular seasons on Wednesday in a matchup at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. It will mark Durant's first official NBA action since he ruptured his Achilles in Game 6 of the 2019 Finals, and first appearance since signing with Brooklyn.

Kevin Durant, for his part, is downplaying the matchup against the Warriors.

“I feel like each game is important to me,” Durant told ESPN's Malika Andrews. “And it's no more important to me because I am playing against my old teammates. I just feel like the game of basketball is going to have me on that level anyway and it's going to be good to see some of my old teammates.”
