The Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers have had the most exciting rivalry in the NBA over the past few years. Both teams have pounded each other in the regular season and in the NBA Finals — where they have met three consecutive times. Although the Warriors have won two of their three Finals matchups, the Cavs have still proven to be the Warriors' greatest challenger over the years. Head coach Steve Kerr recently talked about the rivalry between these two teams, via Mark Medina of The Mercury News.

“We just want to kick each other’s ass. There’s no sort of love lost. That’s how it should be. We should be trying to beat each other. Lakers-Boston was the dominant rivalry. Our rivalry with Cleveland is the analogy of the modern NBA. It’s the same thing. You got superstars all over the floor. You’ve had three Finals meetings. You have so many games and so many people watching. It’s definitely a special feeling in the building when both teams are there.”

As successful as the Warriors have been over the last three seasons, they are still reminded of their horrible collapse in the 2016 NBA Finals, where they lost despite being up 3-1 in the series. Nonetheless, Kerr maintains that he never thinks about the Finals loss.

“I never think about Game 7 anymore, I’ve moved on. If you linger on that stuff, you can’t move on. Then in the end, as you move further away from it, it’s a game. Somebody is going to win. Somebody is going to lose. You have to have that kind of perspective.”

Steve Kerr and the Warriors play the Cavs in Cleveland on Monday. Hopefully, fans will get to see another intense game between the two NBA rivals.
