After the recent torn Achilles injury sustained by All-Star shooting guard Klay Thompson, the Golden State Warriors were suddenly in dire need to add more players in the position. Houston Rockets shooting guard Austin Rivers remains to be available in the market as an unrestricted free agent and is being eyed by the Dubs to come and play in the Bay Area ahead of next season, as per The Athletic‘s Tim Kawakami.

He recently opted out of the final season of his two-year, $4.5 million deal signed with the Rockets back in July of 2019 to test free agency. Rivers eventually emerged as a regular contributor for the James Harden-led squad last season with norms of 8.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 68 appearances for the team.

With all the turmoil circulating in Houston, the former Duke standout was reportedly one of the disgruntled players who wanted out of the team and desired to seek a change of scenery elsewhere.

The Warriors already made moves in free agency after they acquired Kelly Oubre Jr. from the Oklahoma City Thunder where they decided to use their $17.2 million traded player exception in order to take in his $14.4 million salary for next season.

Thompson's season-ending injury could eventually slot Oubre in at the starting shooting guard position but Rivers can still be acquired in order to provide much-needed offense for the team's second unit.

With their Western Conference rivals seemingly engaging in an active arms race early on, the Warriors' front office can still match up and turn to Austin Rivers as one of their most viable options moving forward.
