The Golden State Warriors are once again looking outside the box. In a 2020 NBA Draft that's considered top-three heavy with its best trio of prospects: Anthony Edwards, James Wiseman, and LaMelo Ball — the Warriors have scouted beyond the hoopla of these young stars, landing on an even better fit.

According to Connor Letourneau of The San Francisco Chronicle, the Warriors could consider selecting Iowa State point guard Tyrese Haliburton ahead of the likes of Ball.

“I’ve been told that (Tyrese Haliburton) has emerged as the No. 1 point guard on the Warriors’ board — yes, above LaMelo Ball and Killian Hayes,” wrote Letourneau.

Haliburton missed part of his sophomore season with a broken left wrist. He put up 15.2 points, 6.5 assists, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 steals over 22 games, managing to shoot a strong 50% from the floor and an impressive 42% from deep.

“If Golden State lands anywhere between No. 2 and No. 5, it will seriously consider Haliburton,” added Letourneau.

Unlike a playmaker like Ball and a scorer like Edwards, or even a physical specimen in Hayes, Haliburton has the experience of the bulk of two years in college and a much lengthier sample size than the two aforementioned players combined.

The Warriors traveled to Ames, Iowa in January to see Haliburton play and they came out impressed.

At 6-foot-5 and 175 pounds, the thin marksman has develop as an all-around playmaker and if he can develop his body in the first few years, can be a potent weapon for the franchise, already boasting an innate shooting ability and the right mechanics to succeed at the next level.

There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding Ball and Wiseman due to playing a combined 15 games before declaring for the NBA Draft. Haliburton has a funky release, but he's been effective both of his years at Iowa State — and the percentages speak for themselves.

His long wingspan also allows him to disrupt things defensively, as he averaged 2.5 steals and 0.7 blocks in his 22 games with the Cyclones.

Polish that up the right way and the Warriors may be zoning in on the next Klay Thompson.
