When it comes to Washington Football Team QB Alex Smith's leg injuries, it feels especially good to hear encouraging news.

Looking ahead to its Week 15 matchup, Washington is, at the moment, feeling optimistic about Alex Smith's chances to start against the Seattle Seahawks.

Smith is dealing with what is being described as calf tightness. He missed the second half of Washington's Week 14 victory over the San Francisco 49ers with soreness in his surgically-repaired right leg.

Fortunately, after the game, WFT head coach Ron Rivera said Smith’s X-rays showed no serious issues. He noted that Smith had been experiencing “some tightness and muscle soreness as he was pushing off that right leg,” which is why he was held out for the final two quarters.

On NFL Network on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero reported that, while the team “feels pretty good” about Smith's chances to play Sunday, he will be limited in practice this week, as WFT will prioritize rest over reps for the veteran QB.

If Smith can't play, Dwayne Haskins will get the start. Haskins completed 7 of 12 pass attempts for 51 yards in the win over the Niners.

Smith has won four of his five starts this season. After missing two years with a near-fatal leg injury that required 17 surgeries, the 36-year old is the odds-on favorite to win the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year Award for 2020.

Riding a four-game winning streak led by a dominant defensive line, the 6-7 Washington Football Team has seized control of the NFC East lead with three games remaining.

Since Smith took over as the team's starter in Week 10, the Washington Football Team has averaged 26.8 points per game.
