The Washington Football Team has made an early change at the quarterback position, with Kyle Allen replacing Dwayne Haskins under center.

Head coach Ron Rivera shed more light on the decision on Wednesday, suggesting Allen–who played under Rivera in Carolina–knows the system, and might give the team a chance to win the NFC East.

Haskins actually had his best performance of the season in Week 4, completing 32 of 45 passes for 314 yards. However, it is hard to ignore Haskins' struggles.

The former Ohio State product was completing well under 60 percent of his passes entering Week 4, and he threw three consequential interceptions in a Week 3 loss to the Cleveland Browns. Haskins was also averaging just 6.4 yards per pass attempt.

Rivera will help Allen's familiarity with the offensive system can help Washington Football get back on track in a wide-open division.

Allen started 12 games for the Panthers last year, throwing for 3,322 yards and 17 touchdowns against 16 interceptions. The Football Team brought Allen into the fold in the offseason, and now he will have the opportunity to be the starter.

Despite Washington's struggles, it is very much alive in the division. The Philadelphia Eagles are currently leading the NFC East with a 1-2-1 mark, with the Dallas Cowboys joining the Football team with a 1-3 record.

It will be interesting to see whether Allen can have more success in Washington than he did in Carolina. Allen was sacked 46 times for a league-high 397 yards last year and–so far–Washington's offensive line has struggled.

In any case, the Washington Football coach feels this was the move to make with the division still very much hanging in the balance.
