The Washington Football Team has released a statement on the news that safety Deshazor Everett was the driver in a fatal car crash that left one woman dead.

Here's the statement from Washington:

“We've been made aware of an automobile accident last night involving Deshazor Everett. A passenger in his vehicle lost their life and we extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends who lost a loved one. Deshazor is currently in the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by this tragedy. Our team has alerted the league office and is working with local authorities as we continue to gather more information. We will have no further comment at this time.”

The Washington safety's car went off the road on Thursday night, hit several trees and rolled over. The woman, 29-year-old Olivia S. Peters of Las Vegas, died after she was taken to the hospital. The cause of the crash is being investigated.

Everett has spent essentially his entire career with Washington. He went undrafted out of Texas A&M in 2015 and initially signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, only to get waived before joining Washington. He has remained with the franchise since.
