It's not even the 2023 MLB season yet but Trea Turner is already flexing his muscles at the plate.

In Sunday's World Baseball Classic semifinals matchup between Team USA and Team Cuba, the Philadelphia Phillies shortstop, Trea Turner brutally launched a long bomb that traveled for 428 feet to extend USA's lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the second inning.

Apparently, Turner hit the ball so hard, his batting gloves immediately decided to retire, per Jon Morosi of the MLB Network.

“As I reported on our broadcast, Trea Turner just threw away one of his batting gloves in a dugout garbage bin. The ferocity of his last HR swing apparently split the material. Still, I was stunned. I thought ballplayers were superstitious.”

Trea Turner also had a big blast in the quarterfinals against Team Venezuela, as he blasted a 407-feet grand slam in the top of the eighth inning to put the United States in front for good in a 9-7 victory.

Between that at-bat against Venezuela and the aforementioned one versus Cuba, Trea Turner has accumulated a total of 835 feet, as pointed out as well by FOX Sports.

Turner and the United States finished Pool C play second with a 3-1 record, scoring 26 runs while allowing only 16. The winner of this USA vs Cuba showdown will head to the World Baseball Classic championship game to face whoever wins in the other semifinal contest between Mexico and Japan.

Trea Turner signed an 11-year deal with the Phillies back in December worth $300 million.
