DokeV, an upcoming game from Pearl Abyss of Black Desert Online fame, is a creature-collecting open-world action-adventure. It showed off a brand new trailer last week at Gamescom, which you can also view below:

What is DokeV?

The colorful trailer definitely shows a lot of different activities, but what is DokeV? The official website describes it as the following:

“DokeV is a creature-collecting open-world action-adventure filled with intriguing stories and set in a unique, vibrant world. Befriend adorable Dokebi that gain strength from and encourage people's dreams, and get ready to embark on an adventure!”

Originally, the game was supposed to be a Pokemon-esque MMO, but the game's official Twitter account has recently announced that it won't be. Developer Pearl Abyss “decided to move the game in a different direction.”

Currently, there's not really much on how the game will actually play. The DokeV trailer shows off different ways to traverse the world – a skateboard, a bike, rollerblades, even a magical umbrella. The creature battles also seem to be in real-time as opposed to turn-based.

The creatures you collect – Dokebi – are spirit-like entities inspired by traditional Korean folktales. This puts the game in a similar spin as fellow Pokemon-inspired creature collector, Yokai Watch.

DokeV doesn't have a release date just yet. There are also no details about how the game will handle multiplayer. We don't know yet if it will still have any due to its shift out of the MMO genre, but the game looks like it'll be fun with smaller co-op teams.
