Chicago White Sox star Tim Anderson has been suspended a game for his actions in Wednesday's game against the Cleveland Guardians.

Anderson specifically flipped “the bird” to fans, something the league has cracked down on in the past. Since he is appealing the suspension, the infielder is still available for Friday's game against the Twins.

Anderson has blossomed into a star for the White Sox, batting over .300 in three consecutive seasons. He's also become a fan favorite in the Windy City in the process. After finishing seventh in the AL MVP voting in 2020, he made his first All-Star Game last season. Anderson's carried the momentum into this season, as he's batting .333 in 36 ABs along with a homer and five RBIs.

This incident is just the latest sports mix-up between athletes and fans. NBA star Kyrie Irving was fined $50,000 within the past week for doing the same thing in Game 1 against the Celtics. Sports leagues have seemed to place more of an emphasis on not tolerating athletes and their reactions to fans. With that being said, Anderson was suspended while Irving was just fined, showing a difference in how the leagues have handled these incidents.

The White Sox have had mixed results to begin the season, as they sit at .500 through 12 games. They sit a game behind the first-place Guardians in the AL Central. While the appeal puts a hold on the suspension for the moment, it seems unlikely Anderson will win it. From there, he'll be suspended for a game once the league (likely) denies it.
