The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to go all out this offseason to bring Phillip Rivers and Melvin Gordon to Florida. The Buccaneers have built a solid team and the missing pieces could be the quarterback and running back. If they improve both of those positions this is a team that could compete in the NFC South, especially if Drew Brees decided to hang it up.

The Buccaneers' defense was strong against the run last year, so if they can get a couple of players to improve the pass defense, alongside Philip Rivers and Melvin Gordon, the rest of the NFL will be put on notice.

Philip Rivers

Philip Rivers has moved his family to Florida, which has really swirled the rumors about him joining the Buccaneers. The one thing that is concerning for Rivers is all about the interceptions.

Jameis Winson had an interception during the 2019 season, and Rivers wasn't that much better throwing the ball to the opposing team 20 times.

The interceptions were undoubtedly a problem, but he also didn't fully seem to trust the system he was in. Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians is considered one of the best coaches for quarterbacks in the league, and the idea of playing for him should excite Rivers.

Rivers also isn't going to be a quarterback that plays six or seven years more in the league. If they were to draft a quarterback in the first couple of rounds during the 2020 draft, they don't want that quarterback learning from Winston. It would make a lot more sense to have them sit behind Rivers for a year or two, and get adjusted to the NFL.

Melvin Gordon

Ronald Jones was a solid running back last season, but in today's NFL having a pair of backs seems to work out best. Melvin Gordon shared the background with Austin Ekeler with the Chargers, and they worked well together.

Gordon played in only 12 games after holding out to start the season, but he still had solid stats for a guy splitting carries. He rushed the ball 162 times for 612 yards and eight touchdowns. He also caught 42 passes for 296 yards and a touchdown.

Having Gordon and Jones working hand in hand would really help improve the offense. Having a good running game would also take the pressure off of Rivers, or whoever is the quarterback for the Buccaneers.

Rivers and Gordon couldn't win a title in San Diego or Los Angeles, but maybe a move to Tampa Bay could get it done.
