The Philadelphia 76ers hit a major wall when they were knocked out of the first round in the 2020 NBA Playoffs. They have since fired head coach Bret Brown as they try to salvage what is left of the famed “Process” and make it work.

However, it is clear they have to make some roster moves to improve around Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.

On the Locked On Kings Podcast, host Matt George was joined by Rich Hoffman from The Athletic Philadelphia to discuss a player that makes a lot of sense for the Sixers: Sacramento Kings guard Buddy Hield.

Rich Hoffman: So I look at Buddy Hield, 11 threes per 36 minutes. That's what the Sixers need. They need somebody who's willing to shoot it. As much as they already paid Tobias Harris all this money —  and you had Brett Bown this year saying ‘we just need him to shoot more threes, he needs to hunt more threes’ — you do not have to tell Buddy Hield to shoot more of those threes.

So you know all of the defensive limitations, all of the other limitations that Buddy Hield has, I think there would be naturally a decent amount of interest from from the Sixers just because that level shooter and somebody who can shoot off the move is somebody that they desperately need.

Matt George: I think there definitely would be interest from Sacramento, too, a willingness to take on a contract if they truly did feel that they could make it work with Buddy Hield. So in your mind, what is the peak value — I suppose and it's kind of putting you on the spot, so I apologize — that Sacramento could realistically get in a Buddy Hield trade with Philadelphia?

Rich Hoffman: They have these young guys that are okay, you know, Shake Milton and Mattise Thybulle who's very intriguing … Those are really the two guys they they have to offer. Then I went over their picks: they have Oklahoma City’s pick this year which is like 22nd or 21st, something like that, and then they have their own picks moving forward and some seconds.

But if you're going to make that trade and you're going to get the Sixers Buddy Hield, you know, I don't know how much value those picks have. The Sixers are gonna be in the playoffs at least so you know, it's not gonna be like a high lottery pick by any means.

I would assume that they would be interested in somebody like Buddy Hield, [as] there are a few players who kind of fit the the guard mold. I think Chris Paul is somebody who they could theoretically be in on as well. The problem is they don't have like the great young player or pick to attach to it. So I think the Kings would have to be okay with, you know, taking maybe a combination of maybe a young player and a pick. I don't know exactly what it would be or maybe pawning off another salary.

To answer your question, that's a long winded way of saying like, whatever the peak value is, it's probably not going to be great outside of the player that the Sixers get back for buddy.
